New World Season 9 - Mjolnir Blunderbuss Build Guide

Jul-21-2025 PST

If you're getting ready for Season 9 in New World, you've probably noticed just how important it is to have a solid PvP build. One of the most powerful and enjoyable options currently available is the updated Mjolnir Blunderbuss build. This setup focuses on lightning damage, high mobility, and strong sustain, making it excellent for both solo and group PvP.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about the build, gear, weapons, skills, and how to play it effectively.

The Build in Action

Let's start with a bit of gameplay energy. Picture this: you're running into a group fight. You drop two enemies fast. You block, dodge, reposition, and then land a big hit with Mighty Gavvel. You swap to the Blunderbuss, net shot someone trying to run, and follow up with a shrapnel blast to finish them off. This build is made for those kinds of moments—fast, chaotic, and rewarding.

Gear Overview

The build uses a mix of light, medium, and heavy armor to stay in the medium equip load category, which gives a good balance of defense and mobility. It's centered around five pieces with the “Shirking Heals” perk for consistent sustain and survivability in fights.

· Helmet: Light with Hasted Vigor and Slash Conditioning. Hasted Vigor gives you haste when you're under a DOT effect, and Slash Conditioning reduces incoming slash damage.

· Chest: Heavy with Shirking Heals, Lifesteal, and Vital Synergy. Vital Synergy is great for regeneration when you're low on health or stamina.

· Gloves: Light with Shirking Heals, Slash Conditioning, and Health. Helps round out your resistance and sustain.

· Pants: Medium artifact AOTH Conductors. While wearing medium armor, this artifact gives you 15% more elemental damage, which boosts your lightning output. It also has Refreshing and Health.

· Boots: Sand Lion Tarsus. These are named boots with Keen Speed, Freedom, and Shirking Heals. They give you extra movement speed after critical hits and reduce crowd control effects. If you have them, they're a huge upgrade.

Weapons

This build uses a Warhammer and Blunderbuss combo, both focused on lightning damage.

· Warhammer (Spark of Mjolnir): This artifact converts 99% of your hammer damage to lightning and boosts lightning damage by 20%. It has perks like:

  · Spark Mighty Gavvel, which causes a lightning strike on an ability hit and applies weaken

  · Refreshing Mighty Gavvel, which lowers cooldowns

  · Refreshing Move for cooldown reduction on light and heavy attacks

  · Trenchant Recovery, which heals you for 25% of heavy melee damage dealt

The Warhammer is the main nuke and crowd control weapon in the build.

· Blunderbuss (Commandant's): This comes from Outpost Rush crates. It has:

  · Shocking Lightning, adding bonus lightning damage after dodging

  · Plagued Crits, reducing enemy healing on critical hits

  · Leeching Shrapnel Blast, healing you for a portion of the damage dealt

  · An electrified gem to convert more of its damage to lightning

The Blunderbuss is great for follow-up damage, slowing enemies, and sustaining through healing from Shrapnel Blast.

Attribute Setup

The ideal attribute split is:

· 350 Strength – maximizes Warhammer damage

· 100 Intelligence – gives a 10% bonus to elemental damage (lightning)

· 200 Constitution – for survivability

In the example shown, due to not having ideal jewelry, the build runs with:

· 350 Strength

· 100 Intelligence

· 50 Focus – gives 10% incoming healing

· 150 Constitution

Once you get better gear with Constitution rolls, you can swap the Focus out.

Trinkets and Heart Rune

· Amulet: Divine, Health, and Thrust Protection. Thrust helps against bows and muskets.

· Ring: Leeching, Lightning Damage, and Party Damage. The lightning damage boost helps your Blunderbuss.

· Earring: Healthy Toast, Refreshing Toast, and Regenerating. These are solid perks for healing and sustain.

The heart rune is Stalwart Stoneform. This lets you shrug off stuns and slows, and either escape a bad situation or go aggressive without getting interrupted.

Resistance Setup

The build is designed to balance resistances across the board:

· 10% elemental resistance

· 16% fire resistance (important due to current fire-heavy meta)

· 20% thrust resistance

· 20% slash resistance (with 2x Slash Conditioning and a Moonstone)

· Some strike and standard (bleed) resistances as well

Gem setup includes 4 Opals, 2 Onyxes, 1 Moonstone, and 1 Ruby.

Warhammer Skill Tree

Key abilities are:

· Shockwave – AOE stun

· Armor Breaker – Applies Rend

· Mighty Gavvel – Main damage burst

Important passives:

· Facilitated Expedition – Gain haste when hitting a debuffed enemy

· Exhaustive Attacks – Slows enemy stamina regen

· I Can Do This All Day – Reduces stamina cost when blocking melee

This setup makes it easy to control fights, pressure opponents, and keep up with fast movers.

Blunderbuss Skill Tree

There are two main versions:

1. Net Shot version – Good for rooting and slowing opponents

2. Claw Shot version – Good for chasing down players, especially ranged ones

You can run either one depending on your playstyle. Net Shot is great for control, while Claw Shot offers better mobility.

Use abilities like Splitting Grenade and Shrapnel Blast in both builds. Be sure to mix in auto attacks between abilities to maximize DPS and apply more pressure.

How to Use the Build

Start fights by baiting attacks with your block. Open with Armor Breaker to make the enemy panic and dodge. Then follow up with Shockwave to stun, and Mighty Gavvel to deal huge damage.

Once that combo is done, switch to Blunderbuss. Use Net Shot or Claw Shot to slow or gap close, fire auto attacks, throw grenades at their feet, and finish with Shrapnel Blast. Always weave in light attacks between abilities to keep damage and pressure high.

Use Stoneform defensively when you're being focused or offensively to secure kills without interruption.

If you're outnumbered, the sustain from Shirking Heals, Leeching Shrapnel, and Trenchant Recovery lets you survive longer than expected.

Final Thoughts

This build is great for PvP and really shines when you're fighting outnumbered or need to chase down fast enemies. It's tanky enough to survive focused pressure, mobile enough to keep up with ranged players, and it has enough burst to kill quickly.

The synergy between the Mjolnir Warhammer and electrified Blunderbuss makes it one of the most unique and fun builds you can run in New World right now. With Season 9 just around the corner, it's a great time to test this build out and see how it works for your playstyle.

If you manage to pull gear like the Sand Lion Tarsus boots or a perfect Vital Synergy chest piece, this build gets even better. And whether you prefer Net Shot or Claw Shot, there's plenty of flexibility to tweak it to your liking.
