What Are the RuneScape Dragonwilds Skills?

RuneScape Dragonwilds uses a skill system that mirrors the original RuneScape, according to Sportskeeda's skills overview for the 1.0 update. Performing a specific activity in the game automatically raises the skill aligned to that activity. Each skill point grants a small passive bonus tied to the activity, and reaching certain thresholds unlocks exclusive recipes, abilities, and spells.

There are currently 12 known RuneScape Dragonwilds skills, nine of which Sportskeeda reports have been featured in-game. Of these, only Prayer has not been implemented yet, and the outlet notes it might arrive sometime in 2027 1.

How Does Skill Leveling Work?

Every active skill levels up through repeated use of its aligned activity. A circular progression bar appears with each bit of XP gained toward that skill. XP awarded scales with the impact of the specific instance — for example, a critical hit grants twice the Attack or Ranged XP of a regular hit.

Sportskeeda notes one exception within the combat group: you can use Ranged weapons, but you will not gain Ranged levels until the relevant conditions apply. Skills fall into four categories — Combat, Gathering, Artisan, and Support — with three skills each in the first three categories and one Support skill 1.

Visual explanation: Each Attack level reduces Stamina cost while attacking or blocking by 0.5%, capping at 49% cheaper attacks and blocks at level 99.

Which Combat Skills Can You Train?

Four skills make up the Combat category:

  • Attack: Levels via melee combat actions such as hits, special attacks, blocking, and parrying.
  • Ranged: Levels by landing hits with bows and arrows.
  • Magic: Levels by casting direct offensive magic from a wand or staff.
  • Prayer: Not in-game yet, per Sportskeeda.

Each Attack level reduces Stamina cost while attacking or blocking by 0.5%, capping at 49% cheaper attacks and blocks at level 99. Ranged, by contrast, factors the target's maximum HP pool into its XP calculation, and higher Ranged levels improve the chance of recovering shot arrows and bolts 1.

What Do Gathering Skills Cover?

The four Gathering skills each respond to a distinct activity in Ashenfall:

  • Mining: Increases by mining ore, clay, or stone with a pickaxe, or by gathering stones from the floor.
  • Woodcutting: Increases by chopping down trees with magic or an axe, or by picking up loose logs off the ground.
  • Farming: Levels up by growing and collecting crops.
  • Fishing: Levels up by catching bait via a net and fishing with any fishing rod.

These activities feed directly into the Artisan skills, since the materials gathered — ore, logs, crops, and fish — are the inputs for crafting and cooking 1.

Which Artisan and Support Skills Exist?

Four Artisan skills handle production:

  • Runecrafting: Increased by gathering Runic magic from open vents and crafting Runes at the Altar.
  • Construction: Increased by building any buildable structure.
  • Artisan: Levels by crafting gear and tools, or processing materials at crafting stations.
  • Cooking: Levels by cooking and collecting cooked food items.

A single Support skill, Agility, was added to RuneScape Dragonwilds this year, and it levels up simply by moving around. Sportskeeda's excerpt lists these training methods for all nine currently active skills 1.

Attack vs. Ranged: How Do Their Unlocks Compare?

Sportskeeda details threshold unlocks for both combat skills. Attack unlocks begin at level 5 with Parry and run through level 99 with the Attack skillcape and its trimmed variant. Ranged unlocks start earlier, at level 3 with Quick Action.

What Are the Key Attack Threshold Bonuses?

Attack rewards span passive abilities, spells, and recipes. At level 5, Parry lets you stagger enemies by blocking at the last moment. Level 11 grants the Tempest Shield spell, which prevents all damage for a limited time while blocking and triggers a burst when it ends. Level 16 unlocks Weapon Expertise, adding attacks for all melee weapons.

Recipe unlocks include the weapon rack at 27, the lesser Attack potion at 34, the training dummy at 37, and whetstones at 40. Enchant Weapon spells arrive at levels 20 (Fire), 30 (Air), and 50 (Water). Ranged unlocks include Trick Shot at 8 for 15% increased damage on follow-up shots, the Snare trap spell at 12, and weapon poison via the Toxic Behaviour recipe at 15 1.
