This guide walks through a complete, low-cost weapon craft from start to finish. If you already understand item levels, prefixes and suffixes, and basic currency functions in Path of Exile and its sequel, this will show you how those systems come together in practice.
Our goal is simple: craft a usable endgame Gemini Bow on a tight budget. We are not chasing a mirror-tier item. We are demonstrating a repeatable process that keeps risk controlled while preserving upside.
1. Choosing the Correct Base
Start by purchasing a normal-rarity Gemini Bow from trade. The critical detail here is the item level.
· At item level 81, the bow can roll top-tier elemental damage with attacks and high-tier added elemental damage modifiers.
· At item level 82, it can also roll top-tier percent increased physical damage, which is extremely desirable but significantly increases base cost.
For a budget craft, item level 81 is the efficient choice. It keeps the base inexpensive while still allowing strong damage rolls.
Always balance the mod ceiling against the acquisition PoE2 Currency cost. Spending too much before crafting even begins defeats the purpose of a controlled approach.
2. Converting to Magic Rarity
Use a Perfect Orb of Transmutation to upgrade the bow from normal to magic. Perfect versions skew toward higher-tier outcomes and are cost-efficient for early crafting stages.
Assume we roll a solid with a fire damage prefix. That is a strong start, but perfection is not required.
Next, apply a Greater Orb of Augmentation. While Perfect Augments exist, they are far more expensive and not necessary for a budget attempt. The goal here is to fill the second magic slot with something usable.
Suppose we hit chance to fire an additional arrow as a suffix. This is a valuable projectile modifier and synergizes well with bow builds. We keep it.
At this stage, the bow has:
· One prefix (damage)
· One suffix (additional arrow chance)
3. Upgrading to Rare with a Guaranteed Modifier
To convert the item into a rare, avoid gambling with Regal Orbs. Instead, use a Greater Essence to guarantee a desirable stat.
For most attack weapons, Greater Essence of Abrasion (flat physical damage) is an excellent choice because flat physical damage scales well with other modifiers. Alternatively, attack speed essences can improve smoothness and overall feel.
In this example, we choose flat physical damage. This gives us:
· A guaranteed strong prefix
· More flexibility in suffix slots for potential +projectile level modifiers
After using the essence, the bow now has:
· Two prefixes (elemental damage and flat physical)
· One suffix (additional arrow chance)
· Remaining open slots to fill
4. Exalted Slamming with Intent
Now we move into controlled risk. Use a Greater Exalted Orb to add another modifier. The reasoning is straightforward: most prefix outcomes are useful for a bow, and even a decent suffix can improve value.
Suppose we land life leech as a suffix. This improves survivability and increases market appeal.
At this point, we have:
· Two prefixes
· Two suffixes
· One open prefix slot
· One open suffix slot
We now decide whether to pursue projectile skill levels or continue general improvement. We choose to use another Greater Exalted Orb. This time, we hit +3 to the Level of All Projectile Skills. While the natural roll can go higher, +3 is strong—especially considering that forcing this modifier with premium essences can be extremely expensive.
Now the bow is nearly complete.
5. Filling the Final Prefix with Desecration
With one prefix slot open, we use a Preserved Jawbone to apply Desecration. Since only one prefix slot remains, the modifier will be guaranteed to land there.
Desecration is powerful because it presents multiple outcomes before you choose one. That significantly improves the likelihood of ending with something usable.
Even if the reveal does not offer top-tier percent physical damage, selecting added cold or lightning damage still increases total output.
At this stage, the bow is finished from a crafting standpoint.
6. Applying Final Enhancements
Before evaluating the weapon:
· Apply Blacksmith’s Whetstones to raise quality and increase physical damage.
· Use Artificer’s Orbs to add sockets.
· Insert appropriate runes to enhance base damage.
These small improvements meaningfully increase overall performance and should never be skipped.
To estimate total DPS, look at the weapon’s minimum and maximum damage values, consider the attack speed listed on the item, and compare it directly with similar bows on the market. This relative comparison is often more practical than a theoretical calculation.
7. Market Evaluation and Profit Potential
Search the trade market for Gemini Bows with:
· +3 to projectile skills
· Life leech
· Additional arrow chance
· Comparable DPS
You may notice wide price variation depending on roll strength and market demand. Even moderate rolls can command multiple Divine Orbs if the combination is desirable.
If your total crafting investment was around 15 Exalted Orbs and the bow sells for several Divine Orbs, the return on investment can be substantial. Not every attempt will succeed, but because each craft is relatively cheap, a single strong result can offset many weaker ones.
Repeatable Budget Crafting Framework
For most mid-tier weapon crafts:
1. Buy a normal base between item level 76 and 82.
2. Use Perfect Transmutation.
3. Apply Greater Augmentation.
4. Use a Greater Essence to guarantee a core stat.
5. Fill remaining slots with Greater Exalted Orbs.
6. Finish with Desecration.
7. Apply quality and enhancements.
Keep individual attempts within a strict budget. If early rolls are weak, restart instead of overcommitting. Crafting success in Path of Exile 2 comes from discipline, repetition, and understanding expected value over time.
Experiment methodically, monitor the market carefully, and refine your decision-making with each attempt. Over time, that structured approach turns crafting from gambling into strategy.
