The Best Bow Build for Solo Play Guide in The Elder Scrolls Online

Aug-15-2025 PST

Today, share bow build designed specifically for solo play in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). Unlike most bow builds that use a bow on only one bar, this build equips a bow on both the front and back bar—a first for me. While this might not be the most optimal choice for pure performance in every situation, I've rigorously tested this setup by soloing some of the toughest veteran hard-mode dungeons in the game, including Skullcrusher Peak and Falkreath Hold.

If you're tired of untested or overhyped scam builds floating around ESO content, you'll appreciate that I've included both recordings and combat logs in the description so you can verify this build's legitimacy for yourself.

This build will let you obliterate virtually every type of regular solo content—be it arenas, world bosses, dolmens, dragons, volcanic bands, harrowstorms, mirror incursions, and more. These activities are far easier compared to soloing four-man DLC dungeons on veteran or hard mode difficulties, which this build handles with ease.

Performance and DPS

This bow build hits 69,200 DPS on a 6 million health buff dummy with the final gear setup, and the DPS only drops slightly to 67,600 when using crafted gear alone. That's excellent news if you don't have access to expensive trial sets—crafted gear keeps you competitive with minimal sacrifice.

Subclass and Skill Lines

This build is flexible because your base class doesn't matter. What counts are the skill lines:

· Nightblade's Assassination: Provides critical chance and critical damage passives and powerful skills like Merciless Resolve and Soul Harvest.

· Warden's Animal Companions: This is essential for providing Major Breach and Minor Breach buffs (important debuffs that increase enemy damage taken) since bows lack elemental susceptibility. The Deep Fisher skill is key here.

· Sorcerer's Storm Calling: Gives access to the Hurricane skill, which grants a major resolve buff, boosting your armor by almost 6,000 and adding a nice damage boost and movement speed.

Core Skills Breakdown

Here's a quick overview of the main skills you'll be using:

· Focused Aim: A ranged spammable that applies a damage debuff.

· Deep Fisher: Deals damage and applies both major and minor breach, plus critical damage through its passive.

· Merciless Resolve: Builds up stacks that increase weapon and spell damage and can be spent to fire a powerful, healing arrow.

· Killer's Blade: Your execute for enemies below 30% health.

· Camouflaged Hunter: Provides critical chance and damage buffs when flanking enemies.

· Soul Harvest: Your cheap ultimate for single-target fights, increasing target damage taken.

· Hurricane: Gives a major resolve buff (armor), deals damage, and grants a movement speed boost.

· Poison Injection: Strong damage-over-time (DoT) that excels against low-health enemies.

· Bull Netch: Offers stamina sustain, damage boost, and cleanses debuffs.

· Endless Hail: Ground AoE DoT applying weapon damage enchantments.

· Barbed Trap: Applies hemorrhage and grants minor force (critical damage buff).

· Shooting Star: Powerful AoE ultimate that also regenerates ultimate for each enemy hit.

Situational Skills and Adaptations

This build is highly customizable for different fights. For example:

· Replace Poison Injection if you need a situational skill.

· Replace Killer's Blade on the front bar if you need other situational skills.

· Use Critical Rush for extra healing.

· Slot Resolving Vigor for tougher fights where you need minor resolve.

· Use Soul Burst with bleeds and curses for AoE-heavy encounters.

· Silver Leash for trash packs to chain and control mobs.

· Revealing Flare for damage mitigation and magic recovery.

· Recognition is ultimately to break out of stuns during mechanics-heavy boss fights.

Gear Setup

The core gear setup for most content includes:

· Ansu's Stormrend

· Tidebreaker

· Ring of the Pedagog

· Bag of Thunderous Volley

· One piece of a monster set with a critical chance bonus (like Lam or others)

Situational sets include Vestments of Olaris for damage reduction and more flexibility, Roxxa the Warped for sustain, and Armor of the Trainee for additional health and armor.

If you don't have access to trial gear yet, crafted gear is a great starting point, with a mix of armor weights to level your armor skills and maximize survivability.

Champion Points

Maximize your Champion Points by focusing on:

· Blue tree: Master at Arms, Deadly Aim, Fighting Finesse, and Rattle Strikes. For harder fights, swap in mitigation nodes like Ironclad and Duelist's Rebuff.

· Red tree: Bundle of Vitality, Bloody Renewal, Rejuvenation, and Fortified. Use Bracing if you block often, or Celebration for movement-heavy fights.

Race and Mundus Stone

· Best DPS race: Khajiit (thanks to Feline Ambush critical damage buff).

· Best survivability race: Nord (due to passive damage mitigation).

· Mundus Stones: Use Lover for penetration in instance content, Thief for critical chance in overland content, and Lady for armor in hard dungeons.

Attributes, Food, and Potions

· Put most points into Stamina for damage and sustain.

· Allocate some points into Health for tougher fights (up to 64 points).

· Food: Garlic Coast with Potato Crust (health and stamina), Ozorka's Trap Travel Pocket (health and stamina recovery), or Ozorka Smoke Bear Hunch (health, stamina, and magicka recovery), depending on your needs.

· Potions: Tri-Stat potions for sustain or Heroism potions for ultimate generation during intense fights.

Rotation and Playstyle

The build doesn't rely on a rigid rotation. Instead, prioritize refreshing buffs and damage-over-time effects as needed:

1. Use Bull Netch, Deep Fisher, Endless Hail, Barbed Trap, Hurricane, and Poison Injection.

2. Use Shooting Star in AoE fights or when you start with high ultimate.

3. Use Soul Harvest in single-target fights.

4. Use Merciless Resolve when you have 9 stacks and enemy HP >50%.

5. Switch to Killer's Blade when enemies drop below 30% HP.

6. Use Focused Aim as a filler.

Final Thoughts

This bow build offers a powerful, sustainable, and versatile way to solo nearly any PvE content in ESO. Whether you're taking on tough veteran dungeons or clearing world bosses and dolmens, this build will keep you alive and hitting hard.
